I got my hair done by the lovely Despina Sianou exactly two weeks ago… and I’ve been so incredibly happy with the result ever since! I’ve been seeing Despina for a couple of years now, having visited her for the first time in late 2016 when she still worked at Michael John in Knightsbridge. She has recently moved to Daniel Galvin in Kensington and it was my first time going to the new salon! That’s the thing about Despina: wherever she goes, her clients will follow. She is the only person who I would let play with the colour of my hair. Just like many, many other girls, I first heard about Despina through watching Lydia Elise Millen’s YouTube videos. She had posted a video about her hair journey and credited Despina with having saved her hair from many years of damage. Lydia is someone who I’ve been following for years. I’ve been a fan of her blog and YouTube channel for quite some time now as we have very similar taste in fashion, makeup and everything in between. To me she is a true influencer: she has the ability to make me want to buy whatever is her latest obsession, haha! It’s like that line in Mean Girls: “I saw Regina George wearing army pants and flip flops, so I bought army pants and flip flops”. Lydia is my version of Regina George. Minus the mean girl part.
In the previous years, I always got Despina’s ‘bacio del sole’ which is her version of a sun-kissed balayage. I was a bit more ‘conservative’ with my hair and never wanted to go too extreme or blonde with the highlights. This year it was different. I walked into the salon and after a big hug and a catch-up, I told Despina that I was ready to dive right in and go more blonde! She was so excited. It was a long salon visit but so, so worth it. Not only did I squeal from excitement at the colour of my new hair but I also got to meet my ultimate girl crush – Lydia Elise Millen herself! I couldn’t believe my luck when she walked through the door into the salon. I’m not going to lie… I fangirled. I immediately introduced myself and got talking to her. Guys. She is SO nice! She ended up sitting next to me while we got our hair done by Despina and we chatted for a decent amount of time. She is exactly like she is in her videos – super sweet and genuine! I confessed my admiration to her as I see her as such a girl boss. We talked about ways of dealing with negativity and hate comments online, fashion, her trip to Bora Bora and a bunch of other random topics. She even took the time out of her day to spend a good ten minutes after our hair appointments finished to get some good shots of us so that I could post at least one of them on my Instagram, hahaha! You know how the saying goes ‘never meet your idols’? Well, that’s definitely not how I felt after meeting Lydia.
Anyway, back to the focus of this post: hair. Despina, yet again, worked her magic and I haven’t stopped smiling ever since. Yes, hair is hair and it’s not a big deal. But anything that makes you feel confident and beautiful is a great thing and merits its own blog post, right? I’ve had so many girls ask me whether I would recommend going in to see Despina and the answer is a big, resounding YES! You’ll have to book a consultation with her prior to having the first appointment as she has to analyse the state of your hair in person and talk to you so that she can advise you on what can and cannot be done realistically. It is also at this point that you’ll know about the pricing. All in all, I couldn’t say enough good things about Despina. Not only is she such a sweetheart, but her results and track record speak for themselves!
What do you think of the new hair colour? Do blondes really have more fun?
