My Everyday Makeup

Over the years, I have experimented with all types of makeup looks. I used to spend 30 minutes perfecting winged eyeliner for school, contouring my nose to oblivion and have toyed with different lipstick shades. As of December 2017, I have found a makeup look that has yet to fail me. It’s super simple and quick to achieve but has enough ‘vavavoom‘ to make me feel my best. A lot of my girlfriends have asked for makeup recommendations along the years and I thought it might be useful to put together this post for exactly that purpose. Without further ado, here are the products I’ve been loving in 2018 to achieve my perfect everyday makeup look! If I make any drastic changes in 2019, you’ll be the first to read about them.

THE BASE

I have repurchased these three items countless times now. That’s how you really know that I love them! I put the By Terry CC Serum in ‘Sunny Flash’ all over my face to give my skin a bit of a glow. I don’t know what’s in this stuff but it just makes you look alive. I haven’t been using this in the past couple of weeks, however, because I’m much paler in the winter months and I want my face to match my neck. Instead, I skip straight to the next step and apply the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind concealer under my eyes in an upside-down triangle shape. You know what I mean. I also put some on my chin, nose and middle of the forehead so that I am highlighted and look more awake. The bags underneath my eyes are definitely not designer, haha! They need all the help they can get. I finish off my base by setting the concealer with the Rodial Instaglam Compact Deluxe Banana Powder. This stuff is amazing and makes my skin look less dull for those days when I really did not get 8 hours of sleep. Another great banana powder that I recommend is the Mecca Max Banana Bake Skin Filter, but that’s only available in Australia (I’m broken hearted about this…).

BRONZER AND BLUSH

The next step in my routine is to warm up my skin tone. I do this by using the Too Faced Chocolate Soleil bronzer and applying it using the ‘3E’ method. I’m not sure where I got this term from but what you want to do is focus the bronzer on the outside parts of your face, namely, the temples, cheekbones and jawline. I also use this as an all over shade for my eyes so it serves two purposes for my makeup! Bang for your buck. By using a matte bronzer as your eyeshadow, it brightens the whites of your eyes and makes you look more… fresh. I also love the Hourglass Ambient Lighting Edit palette because it’s so travel-friendly! It has nice setting powders, great highlighters, 2 lovely blushes and the perfect bronzer. I normally use the bronzer shade to go over the Too Faced bronzer to give more glow. Then, I mix the two blush shades and apply them to the apples of my cheek and I swoop it in an upwards motion to give myself a ‘facelift’ of sorts, haha. Wayne Goss taught me that trick. BROWS

I don’t go too crazy with my brows. Truth be told, I don’t even tweeze them except on the odd occasion when a stray hair pops up and tries to form a unibrow. Ain’t nobody got time for that. But generally, I just let them be. I like a natural brow on myself and the easier it is to do – the better! I’ve dabbled with all kinds of brow products and I find that brow powder has always worked the best for me. I’m currently using the Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Powder Duo. Unfortunately, it seems like I have misplaced it after getting ready for a night out so I cannot remember the shade I use but it’s one of the lighter ones for blondes. I set my brows with the Anastasia Beverly Hills Clear Brow Gel. I like this one as it doesn’t give you that glossy and crunchy look to your brows. I want them set, but not, like, in cement – you feel me?

HIGHLIGHTER

Oh, boy. This highlighter has been through a lot! I find it so satisfying to hit pan on a beauty product as it means I can repurchase it guilt-free and/or try out something new in its place! The highlighter I keep coming back to is the Becca highlighter in ‘Champagne Pop’. It gives you such a beautiful glow and it doesn’t have chunky glitter or anything like that. If I’m feeling a bit fancy, I’ll add this to the inner corners of my eyes, the tip of my nose and my cupid’s bow.

EYES AND SET

Normally, I will do my mascara before highlighting but this is just the order I took photos of the makeup products in so it is what it is. The Too Faced Better Than Sex mascara is phenomenal. I have very short and stubborn lashes but this makes them look existent and much bigger than they are! I can’t even begin to count how many tubes of this mascara I have gone through. I’m not at all surprised that this is a cult favourite for any beauty-obsessed girls. Besides – who doesn’t love a beauty product with a tongue-in-cheek name? I set my face with the Urban Decay Chill Makeup Setting Spray. I’ve tried out a bunch of setting sprays and any of the Urban Decay ones are really good and worth purchasing.
