My Thoughts on Function of Beauty: Is Personalised Hair Care Worth It?

Personalised hair care. It’s a thing. I first read about this when scrolling my Instagram feed… as you do. A sponsored post for Function of Beauty popped up and it was an image of bottles of shampoo and conditioner designed specifically for someone called Camille. I thought to myself: ‘Hm, I want a shampoo and conditioner that’s made for my hair specifically’. Long story short – I subscribed to their service and I have no intention of going back. Instagram ads, you’ve done it again. 1-0.

How it works is that you fill out a short quiz on their site about your hair and what your hair goals are. My hair profile is wavy, fine and dry hair and my hair goals are to fix split ends, strengthen, lengthen, colour protect and anti-frizz. You can choose what colour you want your shampoo and conditioner to come in. As you can see from the photos, I went for the pink colour. Predictable. You can even choose what scent you want it to have (if you even want any!) and how strong you would like it to be. I chose the ‘nude peach’ fragrance because I’m a sucker for anything peach-scented (I’m looking at you, Too Faced palettes). You can buy the kit as a one-off purchase or you can subscribe to their service so that you either get it every month, 3 months or 6 months. I opted for the 3 month subscription because it takes me a while to go through shampoo and conditioner, seeing as I already have some other ones to get through as well.

My opinion? Super cool idea. I’ve checked out some YouTube videos about this company and I really like what they’re doing with their business. I like that you can tailor your hair care to your specific goals so each person will have something a little bit different. Also, it’s pretty sweet having your name on your shampoo and conditioner, haha! You know… in case you forget your own name in the shower or something. Is it necessary? Probably not. If you are happy with your current hair care you have then I don’t think it’s so out-of-this-world-amazing that you must buy it. But it’s pretty cool. Personally, I really like to try out different beauty products so I’m quite happy about this purchase. I have noticed that my hair is more smooth when I come out of the shower for sure and it’s sleeker when it dries. I think because I mentioned that I have dry hair in my hair profile, it was formulated so that it’s very moisturising. Maybe a slight bit TOO moisturising as my hair gets greasier a bit faster… I guess you can’t have it all, hey?

This would make for a really interesting gift – either for that one friend of yours who is super into their hair… or for yourself. Treat yo’self. Once again, I came through by getting you a discount code. Click HERE to get 10% off your purchase from Function of Beauty.
